Las Nuevas Maradonas 3-3 JUHentus FC
The start of a new season, the dawn of a new era. After the Russian mafia successfully claimed full economic rights to Carlitos, CALM has undergone some monumental change. Roman narrowly edged out Pablo to the captaincy role (in somewhat controversial fashion) and has gone with a 4-4-2 formation to begin the new season.
The first opposition of the season were JUHentus FC, last years undefeated League 3 winners. Everyones understandable nerves early on were quickly made worse after Ariel scuffed a straighforward chance after being put clean through on goal. After a bit of forward pressure, Las Nuevas were caught napping in defence, and a simple tap in gave JUHentus the lead. Minutes later, Pablo cleared the ball from defence, only for it to fall to a JUHentus player wearing a camoflage outfit. His neat chip doubled their advantage. Then, to the surprise of everyone, Ariel found some form and neatly slotted home 2 goals to draw level. Moments before the break, the faintest of touches saw Pablo fall to the ground in agony, looking a bit bewildered as to what to do, JUHentus gave the penalty. The vice-captian delegated the spot kick to Guillermo, who duitifully placed the ball round the outside of the post.
With the scores locked, things became a bit scrappy, Roman brought on some substitutes, but not much was created. With the exception of one dreadful back pass, little else stood out. Then, with ten minutes to go, a cleared ball fell kindly to a yellow shirt outside the box, who placed a powerful shot past Nerys' outstreched arm. Fortunately the Las Nuevas bench were timekeeping. With seconds to go Sám finished off a neat display with a good finish to ensure the points were shared.
Not an outstanding start to the season, but the Las Nuevas family will surely grow in confidence from a decent performance, and as the season progresses.

Las Nuevas Maradonas 2-2 Erasmix
Las Nuevas Maradonas rarely meet their match in preening, diving, whingeing prima-donnas but today was as close as they’ll come.
The sulky continentals that make up league-leaders Erasmix came within 10 seconds of an undeserved victory before Guillermo Barros Schellotto forced home via a defender following a cross from Javier Saviola.
The mincers in blue-and-white had been forced into desperation in search of parity after falling two goals behind. First, Erasmix’s own ‘Le Sulk’ skinned Roman down the right wing before cutting inside and lashing past Sam Gill-ermo.
And despite a strong start to the second half, Las Nuevas pushed the self-destruct button as Barros Schellotto slammed a clearance directly against Sergio Aguero’s backside and into the net.
Ortega was moved into goal and Gill-ermo up top as ‘Maradonas’ began to regroup, get a foothold and make chances. After fabulous work down the right by Saviola and Marinelli, Leo Messi got on the end of a cross to slam into the roof of the net. Game on.
Aguero and Pablo Aimar had to be on their toes to deal with the pace, strength and whingeing of ‘Le Sulk’ whilst Erasmix’s Carlos hit the top of the bar with a stunning long-range drive. At the other end D’Alessandro looked to be denied a clear penalty when he was caught on the edge of the box.
All was beginning to look lost for Maradonas until Barros Schellotto’s intervention. They cling on to their title hopes whilst Erasmix will rue their frankly unbelievable time-wasting in the second period. |
